Author's Blog

Author's Musings - Assalamu Alaikum, and Hello! I’m S. N. Jalali, a Muslim author and I write for Young Adults and Muslim kids who are independent readers. These are chapter books, with the aim for them to learn about Islam, while enjoying exciting adventures stories, feeding their love for their faith, and fostering a lifelong love of reading.

You’ll soon guess from my blog that I’m passionate about two things; telling stories (about life of the Prophet ﷺ, Sahaba, Scholars of Islam etc) whether it’s in my books or here on my blog. The other is parenting.

Both these interests were acquired through the years of being a parent myself, and the stories accumulated over the course of research I do for my writing. So this you see, is the inspiration behind the account.

Those who’ve read my books will recognise that a few of the stories, the morals and lessons in them, have also appeared here in my blog.

Many other beautiful stories didn’t make it into my books as they are often to do with parenting. Still, I wanted to share their wisdoms, hence they appear here on my blog instead for you to enjoy (though I hope a few might yet still find their way on pages in future, you never know, inshaAllah...)

I was born in London but grew up in Wales. After marriage, I lived in the Arab world for some time to learn Islamic studies and tajweed. I worked on the Islam Channel a few years back on two of their women’s shows, as both scriptwriter and presenter.

I did a degree in Architecture but then channelled the creative process into my writing as a busy parent who happened to be an avid reader (in a time of life regularly to be seen with a child in one hand while a book in the other! Not easy when the child that ruled on my lap would sooner chew on it while teething than see me read it, but that’s a story for another day...)

So that's a little about me, my books and my musings. Don't forget you can follow my musings on social media too, on Instagram and Facebook @houseofibnkathir (see links below).

‘Twas the Night of Laylatul Qadr When All was Calm and Still

It’s believed that Laylatul Qadr occurs on the 27th night of Ramadan.

Why do we seek it out so eagerly? Because Allah (swt) says “And what will make you realise what the Night of Glory is? The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months.” [TMQ 97: 2-3]

Prophet’s ﷺ wife `A’isha narrates, “When the last ten nights began Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) kept awake at night (for prayer and devotion), wakened his family, and prepared himself to observe salah (with more vigor).” Sahih Muslim 1174
