Umm Habiba Ramlah bint Abi Sufiyan (ra)

Yet, she was from the earliest followers who listened to her heart, responding to the call of the Prophet๏ทบ. Pregnant by her then husband Ubaydullah ibn Jash, together they made hijra to Abyssinia among the second wave to flee the persecution of the Quraysh; forced to abandon the homeland she held dear, in exchange for a far off place, to live amongst strangers for the sake of her deen. One night she had a dream in which her husband appeared disfigured. Then her worst fears were realised when shortly after, her husband left Islam for an ignoble life till he met his end.

Umm Habiba(ra) found herself in Abyssinia at once both lonely and a struggling single parent. Yet she carried on, when at any point she could have thrown in the towel at the face of what life seemingly dealt her with. After all she had a wealthy father back home, it could have been an all too easy a thing to just give up and walk away. But she didnโ€™t; for her acceptance of Islam was not on a whim. Instead her heart was made of sterner stuff for her iman gave her courage and fortitude to continue. Turning to her prayers, alone she raised her daughter dutifully upon Islam; and Allah(swt) is always with those who persevere with patience.

One day Umm Habiba(ra) had another dream. Someone called to her: โ€œO, Mother of the Believers!โ€

Umm Habiba(ra) awoke with a start. She knew of only one group of women to hold such an honorific title. Suddenly she became overcome by a feeling of ease. Indeed her dream soon came to pass, for a day came when Abraha the servant girl to Abyssinian king knocked at her door bearing the glad tidings she secretly hoped for. The Prophet๏ทบ having heard of her plight and reduced circumstances (living day to day hand to mouth), had sent a marriage proposal to Umm Habiba(ra) through King Negus. Elated and grateful by her change in circumstances, Umm Habiba(ra) at once removed her bracelets gifting them into the hands of Abraha. Married by proxy to the Prophet๏ทบ, Umm Habiba(ra) was rewarded by becoming his wife and Mother of the Believers.๐ŸŒ™
