Daughters in Islam

โ€œWhoever has three daughters

and he cares for them, he is

merciful to them, and he clothes

them, then Paradise is certainly

required for him. It was said, โ€œO Messenger of Allah,

what if he has only two?โ€

The Prophet ๏ทบ said,

 โ€œEven two.โ€

Some people thought that if they had said to him one, the Prophet ๏ทบ

would have said even one.๐ŸŒน

The Prophet๏ทบ loved his daughter Fatima(ra) and said โ€œโ€ฆVerily, she is only a part of me. I am upset by what upsets her, and I am harmed by what harms her.โ€[Muslim] So his๏ทบ happiness was attached to her happiness and itโ€™s remarkable how his example was to challenge a time when societies belittled and had no value for women.

Anas(ra) said: A man was with the Messenger of Allah๏ทบ when his son came. He kissed him and sat him down on his thigh. Then, his daughter came and she sat to his side. The Prophet๏ทบ said, โ€œWhy do you not treat them equally?โ€ [Sharhฬฃ Maสปaฬ„niฬ„ al-ฤ€thaฬ„r]

After the migration some Muhajirs fell ill. Al-Bara' ibn Azib said, I went in with Abu Bakr(ra) when he had newly come to Medina and he found his daughter Aisha(ra) lying down afflicted with fever. Abu Bakr(ra) went to her, and saying: โ€˜How are you, little daughter?โ€™ kissed her on the cheek.[Abi Dawud]

And he did so for the glad tidings of one who has daughters as the Messenger of Allah๏ทบ said; โ€œWhoever cares for two girls until they reach maturity, then him and I will come together on the Day of Resurrection like these two fingers.โ€ ( The Prophet ๏ทบ held his two fingers together to illustrate).

The Prophet๏ทบ brought change to a society for any whose hearts had grown hard, cruel and without mercy; he put an end to the barbaric acts that took place against women. Gone were the faces who once darkened in shame as their wives wept bitterly for fear of what they knew was to come next; the burying of their daughters alive for no more a crime than to have been born a female.

Those were the old ways yet even today there are those who hold on to its remnants albeit disguised; from disappointment, burdened and feeling lesser for not having a brood of boys, to lend them superiority or look more favourable in the eyes โ€“ un-Islamic cultural values that still hold back some within the Muslim community today.

Yet the final Prophet, the best of creation was a father of four daughters. His wife, Aisha(ra) speaking of his daughter Fatima(ra) said.. โ€œโ€ฆWhen she came to visit him, he would stand and kiss her, and sit her down in his place.[Tirmidhi]

This is a reminder of a fatherโ€™s love and respect for a daughter- a female - a life so dear to him, from his own flesh and blood.๐ŸŒ™
